Walking, Hiking and Outdoor Shops

Trespass

30 Gaolgate St, Stafford ST16 2NT, UK – 01785 223806

Has everything you need for outdoor adventures. Great staff super helpful!

It's okay, Staff are helpful and they are good value.

Millets

11-12, Gaolgate St, Stafford ST16 2BG, UK – 01785 336397

It's an improvement on the old premises. A good range of outdoors products in store at reasonable prices.

Went in to buy some walking shoes and spent an hour trying on several due to none of them not quite fitting my feet properly. Eventually after making the assistant bring out box after box I found a pair that fitted. The staff were really accommodating of my requirements and persisted as much as myself in finding the right shoes. They could easily had fobbed you off with something high priced just to clinch the sale but they didn't. This is a really professional service.

The Range, Stafford

Greyfriars Business Estate, Grey Friars' Pl, Stafford ST16 2PE, UK – 01785 255759

I enjoy the place and have spent a lot there, in every department. But beware!!!! Know what their opening times are. If you go into their parking lot before they're open, ParkingEye will get you!!!! And the Range doesn't try and help you !!!!

Large home and garden store, wide range of goods, well laid out, wheelchair accessible, low prices but not cheap tacky goods, some well known brands and some less known European brands,

Ingestre Lodges

New Stables, Ingestre, Stafford ST18 0RE, UK – 01889 271013

Brilliant! I stayed for two nights with family and there are 4 double bedrooms with a good living/dining room and kitchen! A nice touch is the stable's cat who insists on coming in and joining you as if he was your own family cat for years!! we named him Gary!! Very splendid accommodation, beautifully decorated. On a very minor negative point, some of the bedding needed to be replaced and more extra toilet rolls would have been useful. All in all a very fabulous place to stay.

I would highly recommend Ingestre Lodges as somewhere to stay especially after a wedding. We had a wonderful reception at Ingestre Hall and it was a great pleasure to be able to relax and discuss our special day in such beautiful and comfortable surroundings with family and friends. The accomodation is very stylish and homely providing everything you could need .The open plan living room is very spacious, the fully fitted kitchen is well equipped, the beds are sumptuous and the bathrooms luxurious. An amazing and truely memorable experience.

Snake bites

Most snake bites in the UK are not serious. But it's important to get all snake bites checked as soon as possible.

Call 999 or go to A&E immediately if:

  • you think you, or someone else, has been bitten by a snake

Find your nearest A&E

Information:

If you're not in the UK when you are bitten by a snake, contact the emergency medical services in the country you're in.

Get foreign travel advice on GOV.UK

What to do while you're waiting for help

Do

  • stay calm, most snake bites in the UK are not serious and can be treated

  • keep the part of your body that was bitten as still as you can

  • lie in the recovery position if you can

  • take paracetamol for any pain

  • try to remember the colour and pattern of the snake to tell the doctor

  • take off any jewellery and loosen clothes near the bite, in case it swells

Don’t

  • do not go near the snake, or try to catch or kill it

  • do not try to suck or cut the poison (venom) out of the bite

  • do not tie anything tightly round the part of the body where the bite is

  • do not take aspirin or ibuprofen, as they can make bleeding worse

What happens at the hospital

You will usually need to stay in hospital for at least 24 hours if you have been bitten by a snake.

The bite will be cleaned and bandaged. You may be given an injection to help protect you from tetanus.

If you were bitten by a poisonous (venomous) snake you will be treated with a medicine to fight the venom. This is given through a thin tube into a vein, called a drip.

Types of UK snake

Only 3 types of snake are found in the wild in the UK.

The adder is the only venomous snake, but you should get all snake bites checked as soon as possible.

Telling the doctors the colour and pattern of the snake that bit you could help them treat it.
